Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility

Running our business responsibly is a very important aspect of b-tokens environmental policy. We carefully examine the ecological and social effects that we are instrumental in causing. In this way, we are able to continuously focus on adjusting our processes to ensure a better future for generations to come.

b-tokens processes are transparently clear in pursuit of their objectives and are active participants in numerous initiatives. Here are some facts which demonstrate our 'walking the talk'.

Green electricity

From October 2011 b-token has switched to Green electricity from the company Ecopower. This company supplies renewable energy that comes from their wind power plants, small hydro-electric power stations, Photo Voltaic installations, ... and what they buy from smaller Belgian power supply manufacturers.

Global Compact Network

Since the 12th of May 2011, b-token is world's first official micro-enterprise of the UN Global Compact Network . This membership means that b-token has to keep paying a lot of attention to corporate social responsibility in order to live up to the standards of th GNC.

Signing of the Environmental Charter 2011-2012

On the 6th of April 2011, b-token has signed the environmental charter 2011-2012, together with 34 other companies from the province Antwerp. Hereby we promise to work extra hard to realise our own environmental issues in the next year.

Next year we will know whether or not the companies were able to keep their promiss. If so we will receive the environmental charter 2011-2012.

Tyre pressure control

/system/files/239/original/DSC_0002.JPG?1297417209 On the 9th of February 2011 b-token has launched a new initiative in playing our part in safeguarding the environment. In connection to the environmental charter in which we participate, we will from now on test the tyre pressure of all our team's cars every three months. When the tyres have the correct pressure they have a higher durability and the car will use 3% less fuel what will also lower the CO2 emission.

ECO-TOKEN

eco-tokens, jetons gegraveerdThe ECO-TOKEN is the first biological degradable token. In itself this is a notable achievement but equally important to us is that the process involved in manufacturing the ECO-TOKEN is considerably more environmentally-friendly. One example of this is that ECO-TOKENS are produced at lower machine temperatures.

Of equal worth is the fact that the ECO-TOKENS are produced from a natural and renewable building material, namely starch.

The starch is taken only from the potato peel, a conscious choice as we didn't want to take edible products out of the food chain.

b-tokens Car-free workday

On the 28th of April 2010, b-token, the parent company and some neighbouring companies organised a car-free workday. All employees came to work by foot or by bike regardless of the distance. On arrival everybody was welcomed with a delicious breakfast.

UPS 'carbon neutral shipping'

/system/files/226/original/carbon_neutral_-_logo_def.JPG?1288003918A noteable step was taken by b-token in July 2010 to join UPS, a global carrier company, in their initiative to demonstrate a willingness to lessen the impact of leaving carbon footprints by introducing a carbon neutral way of sending packages etc. We feel as we have a professional responsibility  to uphold our work ethics and be able to demonstrate this through our working practises.  To explain how this works, UPS first purchases certified CO2-credits for their carbon neutral shipments, and the cost of these compensates for the emissions caused by sending consignments. These credits for a small fee are then made  available to companies whose manufacturing processes produce CO2 emissions or greenhouse gases below a set level. UPS is a member of a worldwide certificate and validation body who is dedicated to reducing fuel consumption, saving energy, recycling, and are proactive in their approach to reducing emissions.
